There are new features in MS Dynamics 365 Business Central that support the monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions easily and accurately.
Tracking and Reporting Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Business Central
The functionality is designed to monitor and regulate the environmental footprint of the organization by tracking various greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and providing appropriate insights. Microsoft is continuously developing the functionality.
Below are the features released in spring 2024, which are currently being rolled out to customers. These features support the collection of emission data. They enable the manual input of known data or the use of built-in methods to calculate emission footprints.
Chart of Sustainability Accounts
With the Chart of Sustainability Accounts, you can effectively track, measure, and manage sustainability-related data and metrics in your organization.
It forms the basis for recording emission data and serves as a comprehensive framework that classifies and organizes accounts based on their characteristics. The structure of the chart resembles a chart of accounts, but it is specifically tailored for tracking sustainability-related data and metrics.
The chart covers categories such as energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste production. You can flexibly add account classes and subclasses to define the emissions to be tracked.
Sustainability Journals
With Sustainability Journals, you can track and record sustainability-related activities and metrics. The user interface is the same as other journals in Business Central. You can manually input emissions, or you can use built-in formulas to calculate emissions accurately based on known parameters.
When you make entries in the Sustainability Journal, they form an entry in the Sustainability Ledger. Like other journal types, you can flexibly use various templates and batch processing. You can choose standard or recurring journals to effectively manage sustainability-related data.
Sustainability Entries
When you make an entry in the Sustainability Journal, the data is stored in Sustainability Entries. The data is organized in accordance with the Chart of Sustainability Accounts. You can define rules for their entry in Sustainability Settings.
Reports are created based on Sustainability Entries. Currently, you have several reports available for analyzing emissions as well as tracking them, and more are being continuously developed.
